Elemental Forces: Explore how Earth, Water, Fire, Air, and Ether enhance the structure, mood, and intention of rope scenes on the floor and in the air.

A movement framework to understand and build narrative within rope scenes via rope handling, harnesses and transitions.

Understanding the elemental forces that shape life — your life, your rope, your scenes, your choices, and your emotional presence as a rigger or bottom — lies at the heart of this creative and immersive two-day workshop. Over the weekend, we’ll explore a framework that transforms how you tie, move, feel, and communicate through rope. You’ll discover how the Elements — Earth, Water, Fire, Air, and Ether — can guide the structure, mood, and intention of your tying. These are not abstract ideas; they are living qualities that influence how you move, connect, and create.

What You’ll Learn

  • Refine your somatic intelligence: develop a more responsive, embodied way of handling rope.

  • Physically explore how movement qualities change the emotional and physical tone of a tie.

  • Work with both floor and suspension to explore how energy shifts between the ground and the air.

  • Explore how different harnesses carry distinct emotional and psychological effects. And how the way you tie then will contribute to the narrative you are creating.

  • Use the elements to design rope scenes with narrative depth — from slow, weighted stillness (Earth) to dynamic flow (Water) or charged intensity (Fire).

  • Move beyond repetition and “default patterns” into intuitive, reactive, and expressive rope scenes.

  • Engage in guided exercises that invite improvisation, play, and personal interpretation.

  • Work independently and collaboratively to translate emotion and more complex archetypal expression into physical form.

  • Riggers: need to have a good understanding of common harnesses and have a good and safe upline handling. Level of minimum partial suspension. Being confident enough in tying the patterns so you have brain capacity for putting intention into your rope handling.

Models: should have experience in being tied in the common harnesses, and ideally have experience in minimum partial suspensions. Having an interest in harnessing self-expression, interested to play with expression and interaction with your partner

If you have questions whether you meet the requirements to take part in this workshop, please contact us.

  • What to wear: something you feel comfortable moving around in, something that makes you feel beautiful and confident

What to bring: water bottle, snacks to keep you going

  • Anna Noctuelle is a highly experienced and versatile Shibari practitioner with 20 years of experience. Her journey with Shibari began as a personal discovery and has since evolved into a multifaceted practice encompassing teaching, modelling and performing. Her dedication to sharing her passion for Shibari has taken her to various rope communities across Europe teaching workshops and captivating audiences with performances since 2016. Anna’s artistic journey has been deeply influenced by her diverse background. With a foundation in classical dance and other embodied practices, she brings grace, elegance, and a keen sense of body awareness to her Shibari practice. Her exploration of Buddhism, Tantra and Shamanism, as well as her commitment to yoga, have shaped her aesthetic and philosophical approach to Shibari, lending it a spiritual depth and tranquility. Being a linguist in her other life she’s constantly exploring the communicative aspects of Shibari. She is co-founder of "Embodied in Rope" - a comprehensive educational project for Rope Bottoms and founder and co-host of the podcast "Model Behaviour".

Burgundy Rose (she/they) is a rope artist and facilitator interested in using the body as a tool for expression. They have been studying Japanese kinbaku/shibari for almost a decade, beginning their journey at Anatomie Studio in London and since learning from a broad range of international educators and collaborators. Dynamic, playful and attentive, they are deeply curious about the body and thrive on the intensities - both physical and psychological - that rope can bring out.

Burgundy Rose has training in theatre, dance and aerial circus, which influences their personal style. In 2019 they were awarded a ‘Developing Your Creative Practice’ grant from Arts Council England to deepen their research across rope, dance and physical theatre. Their shibari teaching and creative performances have taken them across the UK and international scene.
