ESSENTIALS: Shibari for Beginners – Drop-In Class

  • Daruma Berlin Germany (map)

with Anna Lysee

This 4-hour class opens a door to the world of tying: first knots, first structures, first moments in which rope becomes a connection. In this beginner's class, we combine technique with what happens between the persons involved – physically, emotionally, socially – and give space for creative experimentation. ESSENTIALS provides you with solid tools, an understanding of safety and dynamics as well as the spark that turns technique into play.

What we’ll cover:

  • Single, Double Column Ties & The Basics

  • Frictions, Tension & First Technical Structures

  • Body Mechanics & Functions, One-Rope Dynamic Tying

  • Intentions, Negotiations, Debriefings & Aftercare

This workshop is open to complete beginners with no prior knowledge of rope bondage.

  • Bring your own ropes if you have them, or borrow some from the studio (there’s also an option to purchase rope if you’d like to take some home).

  • You're welcome to attend with a friend or partner, or come solo and pair up with other participants. Tickets are sold per individual, and many people come to their first class alone. If attending solo, we ask that you're open to both tying and being tied. If you know you'd prefer to stick to just one role, we recommend attending with someone who feels the same.

  • Please wear comfortable clothing you can move in. Avoid jeans, stiff fabrics, metal fastenings, zippers, or underwires.

For those interested in taking your practice further after this class, we offer a 6-week course which takes place every Tuesday evening—the next start date will be on November 11th!

  • Anna Lysee has been active in the world of Shibari for over a decade – both as a model and as a rigger. She has been co-teaching since 2015 and has been leading her own courses since 2018, in which she reaches far beyond pure technique. Her focus is on bringing the interpersonal, personal and creative dimensions of ropes and kink to life and creating spaces for curiosity, depth and authentic connection.

She is the main organiser of EURIX, one of the most renowned Shibari events in Europe, and is involved in projects such as xplore Berlin, the Institute for Body Research and Sexual Culture (IKSK) and the Death Festival Berlin. In addition to workshops, she offers individual kink-specific coaching as well as rope sessions tailored to the wishes and needs of each individual.
