Learn Shibari in Berlin at this beginner-friendly weekend workshop with Gestalta.
Want to learn shibari but can’t make it to our Tuesday evening 6-week course?
This weekend intensive offers a complete introduction to Japanese-inspired rope bondage in an immersive, hands-on format — perfect for absolute beginners or for returning students wanting to refresh their basics before moving on to more advanced classes.
Over two full days, you’ll learn the essential foundations of tying and being tied, combining clear technical instruction, creative exploration, and connection-focused exercises that make shibari accessible, engaging, and fun.
While regular weekly practice is ideal for building confidence and muscle memory, this intensive format offers a unique chance to:
immerse yourself deeply in the fundamentals all at once
experience a broader range of techniques and creative exercises
gain an overview of what shibari has to offer — from structure to play
You’ll learn:
how to tie basic knots, frictions, and simple harnesses
rope handling and tensioning skills
anatomy, body mechanics, and safety awareness
connection, flow, and communication through rope
a short overview of the history and philosophy of shibari
By the end of the weekend, you’ll have a solid foundation to continue your rope journey — whether through our weekly Step 2 course, further weekend workshops, open practice sessions, or self-directed exploration.
Pre-requisites:
None. This workshop is suitable for absolute beginners and those who want a refresher on the basics.
Further Information
You are welcome to come alone or partnered. Participants who come alone are encouraged to partner up with another solo-participant to practice the ties on each other. If you don’t want to switch (both tie and be tied), or are not comfortable with the idea of tying with a person you’ve only just met, then we would recommend coming with a partner.
You don’t need to bring your own rope as ropes will be available at the studio to borrow or buy!
