Want to expand your shibari knowledge, but can't make it to our Tuesday evening Step 2 courses?
This weekend intensive offers you a chance to continue your shibari learning in an immersive, hands-on format; perfect if you already have the absolute basics and want to expand on what you’ve learned.
Over two full days, you’ll learn a wider range of technical elements to add to your rope tool kit, gain a deeper understanding of common safety issues, and be able to construct a range of floor ties, and use them in play to create connective sessions.
While regular weekly practice is ideal for building confidence and muscle memory, this intensive format offers a unique chance to:
Immerse yourself deeply in the fundamentals all at once
Experience a broader range of techniques and creative exercises
Gain an overview of what shibari has to offer: from structure to play
You’ll learn:
How to build essential harnesses
How to create shapes for play on the floor
Better rope handling and tensioning skills
Anatomy, body movement techniques, and safety awareness
Connection, flow, and communication through rope
By the end of the weekend, you’ll have a solid foundation to continue your rope journey, whether through our weekly Step 2 course, further weekend workshops, open practice sessions, or self-directed exploration.
Prerequisites
Participants should already be familiar with all of the content in the Step 1 course. If you have learned the basics of shibari elsewhere, you are welcome to join this Step 2 Weekend Intensive.
You should already be familiar with tying some simple harnesses that use the following elements: single column tie, straight and counter tensioned wrapping, basic frictions: nodome, half hitch, x-friction, half moon friction, kannuki/cinch, double column tie, larkshead (joining ropes).
You should also have a basic understanding of how to check for nerve issues, how to control your tension and how to handle your rope efficiently.
If you are unsure whether or not you have the level for this course, please feel free to contact us.
Further Information
You are welcome to come alone or partnered. Participants who come alone are encouraged to partner up with another solo-participant to practice the ties on each other. If you don’t want to switch (both tie and be tied), or are not comfortable with the idea of tying with a person you’ve only just met, then we would recommend coming with a partner.
We recommend you bring your own ropes, but if you don’t have any, ropes will be available at the studio to borrow or buy!
