Suspension Fundamentals: Study Group

Date & Time:
1st & 3rd Wednesday of every month, 7pm

Level: Beginner to Intermediate

Teacher: Gestalta

Language: This class is taught in English.

Regular, structured shibari practice, for those who are just starting out with suspension – this class is aimed at building a thorough understanding of the technical principles of suspension, and of the body in suspension.

Each month we will study a different classic suspension shape in depth – this means that the two sessions within the same month will follow on from each other in most cases (if there is any variation from this it will be announced). Unless you are a regular participant who has been coming for a while (or you have discussed it with Gestalta beforehand), it is recommended that you do not come to the 2nd session of the month if you haven’t come to the 1st!

Topics

March 6th & 20th: The “Running Person”
April 3rd & 18th: Gyaku Ebi

Prerequisites
You should already be confident with basic knots and frictions, and be able construct some basic upper and lower body harnesses. If you have no experience at all with suspension, it is recommended that you take the Introduction to Suspension: Weekend Intensive before attending this regular group. The weekend course is aimed at giving a full overview of many different aspects of suspension so that you can see the ‘big picture’ – whereas this class will focus on details within that picture in more depth.

Partners and Switching
It is possible to attend this class with a partner or to attend alone and partner with another participant when you get there. Please note, that if you attend alone you must be willing to switch (i.e. to be tied, as well as to tie). If you are attending with a partner, you need to buy two tickets, even if one partner is coming “just to bottom.” Bottoming is a skill that needs to be learnt and practiced just as much as tying does, and even if you have no interest in tying yourself it still helps you to learn about safe suspension techniques to help you judge whether or not you are happy to let a potential new rope partner suspend you.
