Body Handling for Dynamic Floor Play

  • Daruma Neukölln, Berlin Germany (map)

with Sascha

Body handling as a skill is sometimes overshadowed by rope technique, yet it can be what distinguishes a good session from a great one. The ability to move safely and with confidence is more than just the act of "physically relocating" body parts: It can expand your creative options and allows the expression of intent when tying, as the manner in which a person is moved can evoke a wide range of emotional responses and invite engagement.

This workshop focuses on how to intentionally move your partner and yourself when tying on the floor. Using rope is optional in many exercises. Where it is required only fundamental skills are needed. Switching is encouraged during the exercises as it supports the learning process.

In this class you will learn:

  • Movement patterns for transitions between common poses

  • Core concepts to move safe & efficiently

  • Exercises to practice intuition and creativity in body handling

  • Ways to adapt to differences in size/weight/flexibility between partners

  • How to incorporate all of it to create dynamic scenes

  • A whole grab-bag of little tips and tricks :)

Who the workshop is for:

Riggers and models with interest in body handling. While we start with body handling fundamentals the overall content is aimed at all experience levels.

    • Couples should be comfortable with close physical contact

    • Good understanding of your own limitations & boundaries and the ability to communicate them

    • Ability to understand and respect your partners limitations & boundaries

    • Familiarity with rope fundamentals (single & double column tie, wrapping, frictions, & rope handling) strongly recommended.

    • No suspension experience is required.

    • Ropes

    • Breathable, narrow- or- form fitting clothing. Very loose clothing should be avoided. Ankle long pants or leggings are recommended.

    • Small towel

    • Preferred note-taking tools

  • Sascha (he/him)

For me Shibari is a way to establish scenes to get lost into one another. I enjoy the process of exploring the space between - with empathy, respect, curiosity - and guide us towards what we both enjoy.

I'm influenced by various Ryus, additionally drawing inspiration from martial arts and dancing. My personal tying style is very much focused on the interaction between me and my model with dynamic movements, simple ties, and flowing, improvised scenes.

When teaching, I like to create a playful and light-hearted environment where people feel safe to explore and experiment.
