Want to expand your shibari knowledge, but can't make it to our 6-week courses?
This weekend intensive offers you a chance to continue your shibari learning in an immersive, hands-on format; Step 2 builds on the content of the Step 1 course, deepening and expanding on what you’ve already learnt.
Over two full days, you’ll learn a wider range of technical elements to add to your rope tool kit, gain a deeper understanding of common safety issues, and learn to construct basic, suspendible harnesses along with a range of floor ties, and use them in play to create connective sessions.
While regular weekly practice is ideal for building confidence and muscle memory, this intensive format offers a unique chance to:
Immerse yourself deeply in the fundamentals all at once
Experience a broader range of techniques and creative exercises
Gain an overview of what shibari has to offer: from structure to play
You’ll learn:
How to build essential suspendible harnesses
How to create shapes for play on the floor
Better rope handling and tensioning skills
Anatomy, body movement techniques, and safety awareness
Connection, flow, and communication through rope
By the end of the weekend, you’ll have a solid foundation to continue your rope journey, whether through our weekly Step 3 course, further weekend workshops, open practice sessions, or self-directed exploration.

Step 2 follows on from Step 1. You don't have to have taken Step 1 with us, but if you learned elsewhere you should already be familiar with:
Single column tie
Straight and counter-tensioned wrapping
Basic frictions: nodome, half hitch, x-friction, half moon friction
Kannuki / cinch
Double column tie
Larkshead (joining ropes)
You should ideally be at a point where you feel that these elements are starting to live in your ‘muscle memory’, be able to build simple harnesses using them, and should also be familiar with checking for nerve issues, controlling tension, and handling rope smoothly.
Step 1 is an in depth 6 week / full weekend course - if you’ve only been to a one off drop in evening, you'll likely find it hard to keep up in Step 2 and it’s possible that you won't get so much out of it.
Starting at Step 1 isn't a step backwards - it's faster in the end.
-
You are welcome to come alone or partnered. Participants who come alone are encouraged to partner up with another solo-participant to practice the ties on each other. If you don’t want to switch (both tie and be tied), or you aren’t comfortable with the idea of practicing with new people, then we would recommend coming with a partner.
-
Ropes will be available at the studio to borrow or buy if you don’t have your own.
Please wear comfortable clothes that are easy to move in. We recommend avoiding hard, inflexible fabrics (like denim) and avoiding any hard items such as belts or underwires on the body.
