Squeeze & Release: How to tie and play with the exploding harness

  • Daruma Neukölln, Berlin Germany (map)

with Ena Dahl & Roxu

In this workshop you’ll learn to tie, improvise and play with the exploding harness, a quick release lacing structure that offers a ton of dynamic possibilities to play.

Providing both visual and emotional impact, strong intensity, and elements of surprise, it’s a versatile and fun tool to add to your toolbelt.

This simple yet different structure breaks away from more classical patterns and proposes new ways of working with pressure, progression, and body distribution on the floor, in partial suspension, or even on a hashira.

What to expect

Throughout the class, we’ll break down the structure step by step, exploring its construction while paying attention to key points of tension, support, and safety. We’ll discuss how to adapt the structure to different body types and the kind of scene you want to create.

Who is this for?

The approach of the workshop is technical and straightforward, aimed at anyone who wants to expand their rope vocabulary with a new, functional tool that carries a strong presence.

The recommended level is beginner+ to intermediate: Previous experience with this structure or lacing in general is not required, but confidence in basic frictions and structures, as well as good rope handling, tension and partner communication is recommended.

Switching is possible but there may not be sufficient time to do all exercises twice. You may come solo if you’re open to being paired with another single attendee, just let us know in advance if you'll be coming alone or in an uneven group.

What to bring & wear

  • Comfortable clothing, without zippers, metal, or underwire, that allows you to move freely.

  • Bring at least 6–8 ropes (7–8 meters) and safety shears. You can borrow rope from our studio (there is also an option to purchase rope if you'd like to take it home)

  • A willing bottom (or an open mind if you’d like to be paired with someone). Please note that ticket prices are per person: everyone needs a ticket.

Come with curiosity, eagerness to learn, a desire to experiment, and lots of rope… and take home a new tool to play differently.
