The rumours are, once again, true!
We’re Moving!
Much as we love our beautiful studio, we’ve started to outgrow it a bit. We’ve found a brand new home, which we think we’ll come to love even more.
(Due to her unrelentingly busy schedule, Anya was unable to attend this photoshoot and is here portrayed by an actor.)
Wait! Why?!
Long story short… because Daruma is owned by a person with ADHD, and quite poor impulse control.
I started casually looking for a new space, just on the off chance I wasn’t offered a longer term lease on the current space - but the planets aligned in quite a strange way, and somehow I ended up being offered both an extension on the old space, and a contract for the new space at the exact same time.
Choosing to move was a scary decision in some ways, but the new space is bigger, cosier, and so much better suited to our communities needs, that it will be worth it in the long run.
It’s on the ground floor, making it much more accessible, and has enough space to have a separated chill out area, cloakroom/changing room, and a couple of little hideaway spaces for more intimate tying during jams.
It also boasts a fully functional front gate, and a complete absence of dance studios on the floor above.
When?
The contract for the new space started on 1st November.
By pure coincidence the contract on our old space started on 1st November exactly 3 years ago. Renovation took 2 months, and our first ‘official’ event took place on 2nd January 2024.
This time the process is far more straight forward, and we could (in theory) be finished quite a bit sooner - but we’re not in a hurry, and we’ve not set a fixed date for moving.
Most likely, we will slowly start migrating things over there as we’re ready.
Rest assured, that if you’re signed up for one of our 6 week courses, we won’t suddenly be changing venues mid-course - and we’ll make sure that everyone is kept well informed with regards to other events.
It’s fairly certain though, that the vast majority of our events will be taking place in the new space from 1st January 2027.
Where?
Winsviertel - right on the border between Prenzlauer Berg and Friedrichshain.
There’s a tram stop (M4) right outside our door, which connects to both the ringbahn at Greifswalder Str. (3 mins) and just about everything else at Alexanderplatz (8 minutes).
There are numerous restaurants and cafes in the area, as well as (in my opinion) one of the most beautiful parks in Berlin right on our doorstep.
Who and how?
Well, here’s where we want to ask you to come in. We will be needing help with things like painting, assembling furniture, and driving things from one space to the other.
In exchange for this we offer credits you can exchange at the space for workshops, ropes, and well… anything else we offer really. If you want to attend classes, but money is an issue, this is a great way to both help out, and save a lot of money.
We’ve already had our first day of moving boxes, so we can also say that it was quite a lot of fun, and a great way to get to know our community outside of class.
