Neck Rope Safety

  • Daruma Berlin Germany (map)

with RopemanBerlin and RileyEffective

Whilst neck rope is never totally safe, there is a lot that can be done to make it safer.

This workshop has a heavy emphasis on safety, but we will also show you different ways that you can integrate a neck rope into your sessions, and which risks you should consider for each of them.

To do a proper risk assessment of neck rope, we will start from a more medical perspective to explore the structures in the neck and the mechanism of breathing. This will help us explain how to tie a neck rope in such a way that you are not adding unnecessary risk. We will also discuss what can go wrong, how to mitigate the risk as much as possible, and what you should do if things do go south.

We explicitly welcome people who want to explore whether neck rope is something that fits within their risk profile and rope bottoms who want to know more for their own safety.

This workshop is open level: as long as you’ve been to an intro level rope class or workshop before, you can participate. Tops should either bring a safety cutter or €10,- to buy a safety cutter.

You can attend solo or partnered. If you attend solo, be prepared to work in pairs to explore the anatomy of the neck (without rope).
