Hashira from Floor to Air (with Bamboo)

  • Daruma Berlin, 12057 Germany (map)

With Soptik & Sansei

Tying to a hashira (a vertical wooden beam) offers a unique and powerful experience. The immovable nature of the beam and as the body is firmly tied to it bring new sensations and emotions, but also opportunities.

In this workshop, we move beyond the floor and into the air. The hashira becomes not only an anchor but a suspension point. We will explore how suspension transforms the dialogue between rope, body, and beam: from resigned stillness to to subtle motion, from a tight embrace to playful exposure. You will learn traditional suspension techniques for the hashira. In some ties, we will integrate the hashira with bamboos, extending the experience from the vertical into the horizontal space.

  • This workshop is for those who have completed a level 1 workshop covering basic Naka Ryu ties and suspension with us or others. Both riggers and models should have experience with basic Naka ryu suspensions. You should master basic floor ties, especially single and double column ties, with an understanding of square and granny knots, lacing, any kind of arm-binder and Naka ryu gote (Takate Kote) in both high hands and low hands variant. Models should be comfortable in a Gote.

  • Participants will need to bring 12-14 ropes. Safety scissors are required.Item description

  • Peter Soptik and Sansei's approach to ropes is about a deep connection between two people. Their tying and teaching includes classical patterns, aesthetics and also deep surrender to the core, dark emotions in semenawa and existing for each other. Through kinbaku they pursue things they are passionate about. Among the different flavours they tie and teach are objectification and exposure, from shame to humiliation, and some niche topics such as neck rope and arm binders.
